You've heard of Zebra and Pelican Crossings, but do you remember 'Panda Crossings'?

Launched, in London, on this date in 1961, it wasn't long before the Pandas moved north, with this, Scotland's first, opening in 1962, at the corner of Dumbarton Road and Merkland Street, in Partick.

That's the then Lord Provost, Jean Roberts. pressing the button to bring the traffic to a halt.

Panda crossings, due their confusing system of flashing amber and red lights, were short lived.
