Sad to hear that Albert Uderzo, the illustrator of the Asterix the Gaul comic books, has died, aged 92.
As a boy, once I'd grown out of the Beano and Dandy, the Tin Tin and Asterix books - with their brilliant illustrations and fabulous scripts, by René Goscinny - became my favourite reading matter.
The little Gaulish warrior, and his oversized mate, Obelix, even paid a visit to Scotland, in 'Asterix and the Picts'. Needless to say, we got on very well with our French cousins - we even persuaded the pair to wear the kilt - and together joined forces to outwit those pesky Roman invaders.
As well as the English translation of the book, there's also a brilliant version in broad Scots.
