As you can probably tell by the glum weather, today marks the start of the Glasgow September weekend.

Often regarded as the last hurrah of summer, before we hunker down for the long dark nights, just look at the rockin' good time you could have enjoyed if you'd set sail for Arran in September 1971.

We've got Dublin's finest, Thin Lizzie (still operating under their original spelling); Dan 'the man' McCafferty and Nazareth, from Dunfermline; Roy Williamson and Ronnie Browne - The Corries - with their unique folk sound; and the Black Country belters themselves, the mighty Slade!

Heaven knows what Brodick, Whiting Bay and Lamlash would have made of that bill, and their camp followers, but, safe to say the bars would have been busy, especially if Phil Lynott and Roy sat in for a sesh.

Good, too, to see DJ Tom Ferrie get a namecheck, and fascinating to read the bottom of the ad, for an insight into the birth of Listen records.
