Two very different views of the same city block, separated by 58 years.
The block, between Hope Street and Wellington Street, used to be a parade of single-storey shops, with a fancy carved stone parapet above. Today, it is home to the currently empty Westergate office development - never one of the prettiest buildings in Glasgow.
The good news is, the block is about to be converted into a 256-bedroom hotel, called a 'Yotel'.
With the Radisson Hotel opposite, and the new Motel One, on the corner of Oswald Street, about to open, this area will soon be Glasgow's hotel triangle.
Hopefully, this will give this stretch of Argyle Street a bit of a lift. And, maybe, just maybe, might lead to the sensitive redevelopment of the neighbouring former What Every Woman Wants store, which is truly a diamond in the dust.
